The Council for Ethnic Minority Communities is a countywide support organisation specialising in supporting Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic groups in Northamptonshire and the East Midlands.

We offer a high quality of accessible services that reflect the needs of the local BAME sector; we supports community activities that builds bridges between communities in order to increase community cohesion and social capital & promote volunteering involving all sections of the community working together.

At CEMC, we strive to respond to the many differing needs of the communities focussing on race inequality and ensuring BAME groups have appropriate access to services which support their needs and lives being a minority within the County.

At present we are working on many projects as well as offering Voice, representation, lobbying, Training opportunities, sign posting, Capacity building, funding support, governance support and much, much more.

We have been supporting communities for 13 years now, and intend to be around longer…

What's NEW

Northamptonshire ACRE supporting the digital switchover

 Northamptonshire ACRE is working in partnership with the BBC run Switchover Help Scheme, under agreement with the Government. The Help Scheme offers help to older and disabled people to make the change to digital TV. Every eligible person will be offered help to convert one of their TV sets to digital. People who live in Northampton will begin to switch on the 30th March 2011 and by the end of the year, the traditional TV signal will be switched off. If your organisation works with or knows of anyone who may require assistance contact Northamptonshire ACRE on 01604 76588. BT re-launches free web-hosting service for the VCS

Charities and not-for-profit community groups can access the Community Web Kit, a free web-hosting and design service through the communications company BT.

Race no longer a barrier to the adoption of minority ethnic children

Despite resistance from Black care groups and sustained campaigns against trans-racial adoption new government guidance will advise social workers that they should allow white couples to adopt black and ethnic minority children.
